Quarterhorse - Large - Young - Male - Horse - Fortunate Son
Description
Hi! I'm Fortunate Son, I am a 3 year old Quarter Horse/Appaloosa gelding. I am approximately 13.1 hands tall. My story is a sad one but thanks to the Toledo Area Humane Society, it will have a happy ending. *********************************************************** I was left to die in the hot sun this past summer. I had a severe leg injury and became very sick because of it. My former owners did not know how to feed a horse properly and because of that, I was grossly underweight, practically a skeleton. The nice cruelty officers and some of the humane society staff came to my rescue just in the knick of time. I had to be lifted into a horse trailer by several men because I was too weak to stand or walk. I was then rushed to a large animal vet, where they attended to me immediately. They did not know if I would make it through the night. Well, I did! Much to everyone's amazement! After spending a couple months in the hospital, I went to my foster home for several months and now I am at a professional trainers! *********************************************************** I have been gelded and am up to date on vaccines. I have been vet-checked and Coggins tested negative. ***UPDATE 07/14/09*********************************** Fortunate Son has progressed beautifully since starting in training less than a month ago. He is intelligent, willing, and incredibly kind to his rider and handler. He gave me none of the usual problems that horses do when starting to be ridden - no buck or spook or bolt. The first time I got on his back, he just turned around and stared at me, as if he was asking, "WHAT are you doing up there?" In only a couple of weeks, he has learned so much! He is able to have his feet handled easily, loves to get baths (especially when it is hot!) and loves human attention. He is the lowest in the pecking order when turned out with other horses, but continues to try to play with the other horses anyway. He goes quietly and on voice cues on the lunge line at walk, trot and canter and accepts the saddle and bridle without any problems. He is now being ridden by myself and one of my advanced students, but I would feel safe putting a strong beginner or intermediate rider on his back today. He has never done anything under saddle that would unseat even a complete novice rider. He is also jumping on a small jump course. He is going to make a fabulous little English show pony. As smart and easy going as he is, I'm sure he would learn Western easily as well. *********************************************************** In my opinion, Fortunate Son is ready for his new home. He is safe, sound, and grows stronger every day. His new owner should have no trouble finishing him in any discipline. I believe he will excel as a child's horse or as an adult pleasure or equitation horse. He is a fancy mover and currently is 100% sound. He has no vices and just needs to find his special home. *********************************************************** What a wonderful gift of life was given to this horse by all of the amazing people who came together and fought for this little guy. As his trainer, I believe completely that Fortunate Son knows just how lucky he is. He is a truly lovely horse and will make his new forever owner so happy. ********************************************** If you are interested in Fortunate Son, please call 419-891-0705 ext 316
